what are some good perennials to plant along with Purple coneflower?
When is the appropriate time to plant this as well?
I have purple coneflower, but I would like something to plant along with it (in between it) to give something for the period of time that the coneflower has yet to emerge?
Having cut the Purple coneflower back to the ground, what are some good things to plant for the early part of the spring before the coneflower comes back?
Early blooming perennials are:
Basket-of-Gold (Aurinia saxatilis)

Pasque Flower (Pulsatilla vulgaris) -Blooms April - May & will grow in full sun to partial shade, produces purple, maroon, or white flowers atop of finely dissected foliage before the leaves emerge on many trees.

Candytuft (Iberis sempervirens) & Moss Phlox ( Phlox subulata) can carpet an area in April - May:

English daisy 'Rob Roy' is another spring-blooming perennial with deep-crimson flowers.

Late spring is the blooming time for sun-loving Lewisia, a rosette-forming plant with succulent-like foliage. Single or semi-double blooms in white, yellow, pink, orange-red, and blue-red appear from May to late June or early July and surround the foliage.

Coreopsis is likely to bloom from late spring through fall.

You can plant most perennials after the danger of frost is past.
P.S. I've eliminated flowers that are for shady areas. My list has flowers that are sun lovers, but I've included two that are listed as 'full sun to partial shade' like Pasque Flower & Cranesbill Geranium. The Cransbill "will thrive in full sun if the soil stays moist".
Good Luck! Hope this & the sources will be helpful.
