Can i use a thin film capaciter insteed of poly capaciter?

Oh.. you're running it direct from line voltage.
It should be fine. Polyester caps ARE film capacitors (not "capaciters"). Just a different type of film.
Note that you can use any higher voltage rating. The capacitance value (5 uF) needs to match but the voltage rating of the cap can be higher than what the circuit calls for.
However... be VERY careful when building anything line-powered... and very, very, VERY careful when you don't have a power transformer.

Edit-added: Ner: Sorry but no. This job doesn't need a very accurate capacitance; 10% will do fine and that is easily achievable by thin film Cs.
And by the way, the term for good tolerance, a small amount of error, would be "low tolerance", not "high tolerance."

edit-added2: Lare, the surge problem is why they specified 1n4007 diodes. Those have a reverse breakdown voltage of 1000V. If you get a surge bad enough to short those your entire house is going to be in a world of hurt anyway. You can always put a 500V MOV across the input to cover that base if you want.
Nevertheless I agree with the "death trap" evaluation. The only thing beginning electronics builders should be doing with line voltage is running it through a fuse and a power transformer primary. If that.
